Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system repeatedly exceeded speed limits and violated traffic rules in tests conducted in Belgium, according to road-safety group Johanna.be. The tests covered roughly 400 kilometers in and around Brussels. The system surpassed the 30 km/h speed limit in 55% of tested segments. It sometimes reached an average of 44 km/h.
FSD correctly identified a 30 km/h sign but often displayed a 50 km/h limit to the driver, potentially creating confusion. The system also attempted to illegally overtake cyclists. Despite these violations, the group noted the system was generally cautious around pedestrians. These findings precede a potential EU vote on wider FSD approval in October. Some member states have already raised concerns about the system's compliance with speed limits.
