The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved Tesla’s opt-in Issuer Voluntary Retail Voting Program. It lets retail shareholders give a standing instruction to vote their shares according to the board’s recommendations at future meetings.

Shareholders can choose to follow the board’s guidance on all matters or exclude major events, such as mergers and contested director elections.

The approval comes as Tesla has yet to schedule its 2026 annual meeting and amid speculation about a potential merger with SpaceX. Such a merger would require shareholder approval.
