Tesla aims to begin selling its fully autonomous Cybercab to customers by the end of 2026, executives said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. A small number of vehicles will be delivered to customers this year, CEO Elon Musk said.
The two-seat vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals. Tesla is producing it for its robotaxi fleet operating in Austin, and Musk said the vast majority of Cybercabs will remain owned and operated by the company as ride-hailing vehicles.
The sales plan comes as the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigates whether the Cybercab complies with federal safety standards written for human-driven cars.
