Tesla has been selected as the primary supplier for a landmark order of up to 2,500 electric Class 8 trucks by ZET SCALE, a new alliance of shippers and carriers. The deal is the largest of its kind in the United States, effectively doubling the current number of heavy-duty electric trucks on U.S. roads. The coalition, which includes founding members like Microsoft and PepsiCo, aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission freight.
The alliance chose Tesla after an evaluation of price, range, and production capacity. While Tesla is the lead manufacturer for the initial 2,500-truck deployment, carriers within the alliance will also have the option to select vehicles from Kenworth, RIDE, and Volvo. This significant order surpasses previous major purchases, such as a 500-truck deal from Einride, and comes as Tesla prepares to inaugurate its new Semi factory in Nevada.
