Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong will purchase 1.9 trillion won ($1.4 billion) in company shares from his mother, Hong Ra-hee.
This off-market transaction increases Lee’s total stake in the South Korean technology giant to 1.58%.
The share sale provides funds to cover the family’s multi-trillion-won inheritance tax following the 2020 death of former Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
The deal strengthens Chairman Lee’s control over the conglomerate.
