Samsung affiliates announced a combined investment of 12.26 trillion won, or about $9.15 billion, to expand chip operations.
Samsung Electronics will direct about $4.09 billion to new memory-chip testing facilities in northern Vietnam. The first line is expected to begin operating in the fourth quarter of 2027.
The investment will shift more conventional memory work to Vietnam, allowing Samsung’s plants in South Korea to expand capacity for advanced, higher-value products such as high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which is crucial to the AI industry. The plan aims to optimize the company’s global production footprint.
