Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), a new AI-powered upscaling technology for the standard PlayStation 5 console. [2, 5, 7] The feature was developed through "Project Amethyst," a collaboration with AMD, and is designed to bring notable improvements to image detail and stability for base PS5 owners, which previously lacked the dedicated hardware for such intensive AI tasks. [3, 4, 6]
QSSR is a more streamlined version of the PSSR technology found in the PS5 Pro and aims to provide a better visual experience than existing software-based upscaling methods. [1] The technology is being rolled out immediately through software patches for the games "Marvel's Wolverine" and "Ghost of Yōtei," and will be made available to all PlayStation developers for future titles.
