Memory and storage stocks fell in pre-market trading on September 28, 2026. SanDisk (SNDK) led the declines, dropping 3.48%.

The sell-off followed reports that OpenAI had paused training, evaluation and inference work for some of its most advanced AI models. The reports fueled concerns about the pace of AI development and whether spending on related hardware, including SanDisk’s memory and storage products, could weaken.

The decline also spread to Asian markets, where SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics shares fell.
