HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will invest 1.07 trillion won ($747 million) to construct new production facilities.

The project includes a dedicated plant for small modular reactor (SMR) components scheduled for completion by the first half of 2029.

This strategic expansion targets the surging demand for stable electricity from artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

The investment strengthens the global SMR supply chain and provides market validation for pure-play companies like NuScale Power.

Industry analysts view the commitment as confirmation of SMR technology's commercial viability for the AI era.
