Ting-Wei “Willy” Sun, a contractor described by U.S. authorities as a “fixer,” pleaded guilty to conspiring to illegally export sensitive AI servers to China. Sun had pleaded not guilty in April 2026.
Sun was charged alongside Super Micro Computer Inc. co-founder Yih-Shyan “Wally” Liaw and another employee in an alleged scheme to smuggle restricted technology. The alleged conspiracy involved diverting high-performance computer servers containing sophisticated U.S. AI technology to customers in China, in violation of export control laws.
Super Micro has not been charged. The company says it is cooperating with the investigation and has terminated its relationship with Sun.
