SK Hynix is reportedly considering a special dividend of about 16 trillion won, or roughly $12 billion, for shareholders. The potential payout would be funded by an estimated 20 trillion won in gains from selling down its investment in Japanese memory chip rival Kioxia Holdings.

In a regulatory filing responding to media reports, SK Hynix said it is reviewing measures to enhance shareholder value but has not confirmed any plans. The company said it will announce specific shareholder return plans with its third-quarter earnings on October 28.

News of the potential dividend lifted SK Hynix shares, which rose while many technology stocks fell in a broader selloff.
