SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said SK hynix will accelerate construction of a new semiconductor cluster in the Jeonnam-Gwangju region to meet rapidly rising global demand. He said the company intends to begin construction as soon as possible, even if electricity and water infrastructure is delayed.
The proposed cluster is expected to be about two-thirds the size of the one under construction in Yongin. The South Korean government is targeting the start of mass production at the new site in 2030. The project is part of SK hynix’s effort to expand production capacity and maintain its position in the memory market.
