Swedish miner Boliden will acquire a 65% controlling stake in Nexa Resources for $1.3 billion. The all-share transaction expands Boliden’s footprint in Latin American zinc and silver production.
Boliden gains control over five mines and three smelters in Peru and Brazil, including the Cerro Lindo mine. CEO Mikael Staffas stated the acquisition significantly increases the company's output of silver in concentrate.
BMO Capital Markets estimates Nexa will add 7 million ounces of attributable silver production annually. The consolidation creates a dominant global producer of both zinc and silver.
The move signals a strategic focus on metals critical to industrial applications.
