Shopify announced the acquisition of Tailwind Labs on September 9, 2026. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Shopify intends the deal to provide a stable home for the Tailwind CSS framework. The open-source project currently records over 110 million weekly installations.
Tailwind CSS will remain open-source under the MIT license. The existing development team will continue maintenance with Shopify’s support.
Tailwind Labs will cease growth for commercial products such as Tailwind Plus. The company is closing new sign-ups to focus on core framework development within Shopify.
