Shares of Securitize Corp. (SECZ) surged 7.7% to $13.64 as the company rolled out blockchain-based versions of 12 marquee U.S. stocks — including Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, and Microsoft — on the Solana network. Each token is backed one-for-one by a real share and structured as a security entitlement under existing securities law. The move vaults Securitize from a back-office tokenization shop into a direct competitor for brokerage-style trading revenue. Whether the market's excitement is justified depends on whether the product can close a stubborn gap between the company's ballooning transaction volumes and its still-meager top line.

The SEC Just Cleared the Runway — On September 17, the SEC approved a five-year "Innovation Exemption" allowing tokenized securities venues to trade blockchain-based stocks without registering as traditional exchanges.

Securitize says its product is designed to operate within that framework. That regulatory green light is what separates this launch from earlier crypto-stock experiments that collapsed under legal uncertainty.

Big Names, but No Issuer Sign-Off Yet — The initial roster covers Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Tesla, Meta, Amazon, Netflix, Circle, SpaceX, Strategy, and Palantir. But there's a catch: the underlying companies "have not sponsored or endorsed" the tokens, and Securitize does not name any of the 12 as having adopted issuer-sponsored tokenization. Without issuer cooperation, features like direct proxy voting or full share conversion remain limited — a possible drag on institutional adoption.

Volume Is Booming; Revenue Is Not — This is the core tension. In Q2 2026 Securitize posted record tokenized assets of $4.3 billion and transaction volume up 147% year-on-year, yet revenue fell 5% to $14.4 million, missing the $20.6 million analyst consensus. Adding equity trading could diversify the fee base, but only if enough eligible investors show up. Trading initially runs on an extended-hours schedule of 24/5, with around-the-clock access planned but not yet live.

The Stock Is Hot but Still Below Its Peak — At $13.64, SECZ trades above the eight-analyst average price target of $13.37 but well below its 52-week high of $17.01. The company remains unprofitable, with a negative profit margin of roughly -143% and annual sales of just $14.4 million. Investors are betting on the direction of the tokenization market — projected to surpass $50 billion by year-end — not on today's earnings. That makes any stumble in user adoption or regulatory follow-through an outsized risk.
