The Munich Regional Court ruled against SAP in a patent dispute with competitor Celonis, finding that SAP’s Signavio Process Intelligence software infringes a Celonis patent. The injunction bars SAP from offering the technology in Germany, and the company is liable for damages.

The ruling is part of a broader legal battle between the two German software rivals, with disputes also underway in the U.S. and before the Unified Patent Court. SAP entered the process-mining market in 2021 by acquiring Signavio, putting it in direct competition with Celonis.

The patent covers a method for calculating process durations that excludes non-business hours to better assess efficiency.
