Short interest in Royal Bank of Canada rose 140.9% during the latter half of September. As of September 30, it totaled approximately 6.1 million shares. That represented about 5.6 days to cover.
The bank also declared a quarterly dividend of C$1.76 per share. The rise in short interest may reflect more bearish expectations for the bankβs near-term prospects or increased hedging activity.
