Merck (MSD) has licensed SPR2015, a KRAS inhibitor, from Shanghai-based SciBrunch Therapeutics. The deal includes a $400 million upfront payment and up to $1.73 billion in potential milestone payments.

The deal reflects growing industry interest in the drug class, following the successful Phase III trial and recent FDA approval of Revolution Medicines’ RAS-targeted therapy, Rasonque. The investment underscores the therapeutic and commercial potential of targeting the RAS pathway, where Revolution Medicines has established a leading position.

The report also noted that MSD had previously considered acquiring Revolution Medicines.
