Pratt & Whitney Canada, an RTX subsidiary, unveiled its new PT9 turboprop engine. Transport Canada certified the engine after over 14,000 hours of development. The company announced the engine in Las Vegas. The PT9 provides 33% more power at altitude. It also reduces fuel consumption by 20% compared to previous generation engines.

The clean-sheet engine features a modular architecture. It is designed for next-generation aircraft. This design adapts to various airframe types. It also allows for future integration of technologies, including hybrid-electric powerplants. Production of the PT9 engine will occur in Lethbridge, Alberta. This facility also serves as the center of excellence for the PT6 engine family.
