Shares of Regal Rexnord plunged as much as 11.8% to $194.00 after the industrial manufacturer's second-quarter report exposed an uncomfortable truth: strip out a one-time government refund, and the earnings "beat" was barely a beat at all. The selloff erased a 17% run-up in the stock over the prior week, punishing investors who bought into pre-earnings optimism.

A $32 Million Windfall Did the Heavy Lifting on Profits

Adjusted EPS of $2.99 beat Wall Street's $2.59 estimate by 15.4% , but the quarter benefited from $32 million in IEEPA tariff refund benefits, which contributed approximately $0.39 to adjusted EPS and 200 basis points to adjusted EBITDA margin.

Excluding those refund benefits, adjusted EPS was $2.60, still close to the forecast — meaning the underlying business barely cleared the bar. Investors recognized that a non-recurring tax refund is not a repeatable source of growth.

Revenue Fell Short and One Key Division Shrank

Net sales came in at $1,558.4 million, up 4.2% year over year and 3.3% on an organic basis , but missed the $1.58 billion estimate by $20 million. The mix was uneven: Automation & Motion Control surged 16.2% to $477.7 million , powered by data-center and aerospace demand, but Power Efficiency Solutions declined 5.5% to $411.3 million, reflecting weakness in residential HVAC and pool markets. That drag signals consumer-facing end markets are softening even as industrial orders hold.

Guidance Midpoint Held, but the Range Narrowed Below Consensus

Full-year adjusted EPS guidance was set at $10.35–$10.85, including expected tariff refund benefits of $0.57 per share, with the midpoint at $10.60.

That midpoint sits below consensus expectations of approximately $10.69 per share. Management essentially told the Street: don't expect the second half to accelerate.

Cash Flow Weakened Sharply Despite Higher Earnings

Operating cash flow fell to $176.6 million from $523.2 million a year ago, while free cash flow declined to $154.1 million.

The comparison was heavily affected by working capital — receivables generated $319.2 million of cash in Q2 2025 but consumed $2.1 million this quarter. For a company carrying $4.59 billion in long-term debt , weaker cash conversion complicates deleveraging plans and limits shareholder returns. With the stock now trading at roughly 18× forward earnings, the question is whether Regal Rexnord can prove organic growth is accelerating — without the next tariff check.
