Shares of cybersecurity firm Rapid7 surged more than 16% in after-hours trading on November 4 after the company posted third-quarter results that handily topped Wall Street expectations — a bright spot for a stock that has lost more than 85% of its value over five years. The question now: whether cost-cutting and a narrower product focus can reverse a stubborn revenue decline.

• Profits Crushed Estimates, Signaling the Restructuring Is Working. Rapid7 reported non-GAAP net income of $47.4 million, or $0.60 per diluted share , versus the consensus estimate of $0.46 — a 30% beat. GAAP operating income hit $9.0 million , a meaningful swing for a company that posted a GAAP loss as recently as Q1. Much of this margin improvement traces to the 12% workforce reduction announced last quarter . Investors are rewarding discipline, but cuts alone don't build a growth story.

• Revenue Still Shrank, Just Less Than Feared. Revenue came in at $212.4 million, down 2.5% year over year , but topped the $209 million consensus . The company also raised its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to $841–$843 million, up from the prior range of $837–$841 million . That signals management sees the bottom forming — but note the full-year figure still implies a year-over-year decline.

• The Recurring Revenue Trend Remains the Worry. Annualized recurring revenue (ARR) — the yearly value of active subscription contracts — fell 2.2% to $819.7 million . That's actually better than the $812 million the company itself had guided , but it extends a multi-quarter downward slide from $840 million in Q4 2025 . The drag comes from "noncore" legacy products — less than 20% of ARR — while the core threat-detection business has held steadier . Until that core starts growing fast enough to offset the runoff, the top line won't turn positive.

• A Cash-Rich Balance Sheet Buys Time, Not Growth. Rapid7 held $731.6 million in cash and government securities at quarter-end — ample runway for a company with a roughly $1 billion market cap. Q4 guidance calls for non-GAAP EPS of $0.53–$0.55 , suggesting the profit engine keeps humming. But with the stock still down over 60% from three years ago, investors need evidence that this leaner Rapid7 can actually grow again — not just shrink more efficiently.
