Roivant Sciences subsidiary Genevant Sciences and Arbutus Biopharma received a $950 million upfront payment from Moderna to settle a patent-infringement lawsuit. The dispute concerned the lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery technology used in Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax. The parties announced the settlement in March 2026, and the payment was received in July 2026. The agreement resolves all litigation between them.

Genevant and Arbutus may receive an additional $1.3 billion, depending on the outcome of a related appellate court ruling. The non-dilutive capital gives Roivant greater financial flexibility to advance its pipeline, prepare for commercial launches and support a $1 billion share repurchase program. Litigation against Pfizer and BioNTech over the same LNP technology remains ongoing.
