Reliance Industries (RIL) shares fell as much as 1.5% during Thursday's early trading session. The decline followed MSCI’s decision to reduce the company’s weightage in its India index during the August 2026 review.

Analysts estimate this adjustment will trigger a capital outflow of approximately $523 million from the stock. The shares continued trading down by 1.39% later in the morning.

MSCI will implement the changes after the market close on August 31, 2026. The new index weightings take effect on September 1, 2026.

The market reaction overshadowed recent positive developments, including strong retail revenue growth. Reliance also reported better-than-expected Q1 earnings in late July.
