Brazil’s Supreme Court (STF) is set to rule on a dispute involving Raízen and other sugar and ethanol companies seeking compensation from the government. Their claims total R$103.4 billion.

The companies say government price controls in the 1980s and 1990s caused their losses.

The court will consider whether companies that already secured the right to compensation must have their claims recalculated through individual expert assessments. A 2020 ruling established that process.

Justice Gilmar Mendes sent the case to the full court, citing the potential impact on public funds and the need for a unified legal precedent.
