QuantumScape introduced the QS PowerBlock, a solid-state lithium-metal battery system. It targets the rapidly growing AI data center market. This move diversifies the company from its primary focus on electric vehicle batteries. It aims to address the high power demands of AI infrastructure with in-rack energy storage solutions.

In prototype testing, the QS PowerBlock demonstrated four times the power density compared to Open Compute Project (OCP) standards. It also showed five times the runtime against OCP standards. QuantumScape has joined OCP, an industry consortium. The system features enhanced safety. It boasts thermal stability above 300°C. QuantumScape cautioned that final performance depends on real-world conditions.
