On CBS’s Face the Nation, Palantir Chief Technology Officer Shyam Sankar addressed reports that the Department of Defense has stopped using products from AI firm Anthropic. The reported dispute centers on Anthropic’s insistence on safeguards for military use of its technology. Anthropic’s AI was part of the Maven platform, which Palantir also uses.
Sankar also discussed AI liability and public perception. He criticized what he called a “millenarian doomsday cult” narrative driven by the effective altruism movement, and said the technology industry must demonstrate AI’s benefits and engineer safe products. Sankar said humans remain in control of AI systems, and that recent incidents attributed to rogue AI resulted from human error and poor cybersecurity.
