Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior awarded Planet Labs PBC's German subsidiary a contract. The contract holds a maximum value of €25 million over five years. Under the agreement, Germany becomes the first civil government globally to acquire Planet's dedicated Constellation Services. The Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG) will coordinate the distribution of high-resolution imagery and analytics to various civil authorities.

This deal builds upon an existing relationship with the BKG. That relationship began in 2021. It currently serves over 400 federal institutions. The new capabilities will provide German authorities with exclusive satellite tasking. Applications include urban planning, environmental monitoring, and agricultural assessments. A European cloud infrastructure will host the data. This complies with local data privacy and security standards.
