Pick n Pay Stores reported a headline loss of R299 million for the first half of its 2027 fiscal year. This represents a 31.9% improvement from the R439 million loss recorded in the same period last year. The South African retailer's turnover increased by 2.4% to R60.5 billion for the 26 weeks ending August 30, 2026.
The results show the company's multi-year turnaround plan is gaining traction. A key development involved a successful agreement with labor partners on a new in-store staffing model, leading to the withdrawal of a formal consultation process for retrenchments. The group's discount Boxer chain continued its strong performance, positively contributing to the results.
