Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora said slowing AI development is unrealistic, amid a broader debate over the risks of advanced AI and calls for a more cautious approach.
Arora said a voluntary slowdown would be ineffective because not all companies would follow it. His view contrasts with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s call for the industry to collectively slow AI advancement. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has also questioned whether a slowdown is feasible.
The debate was reignited by claims from a former Anthropic researcher that AI could pose a significant threat to humanity. Arora said the probability of such a catastrophic outcome is extremely small and emphasized the industry’s responsibility to build necessary safety guardrails.
