Ouster announced GUSS Automation will integrate its Rev8 OS0 digital lidar sensors. GUSS Automation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of John Deere. The sensors will be used in GUSS's next-generation autonomous orchard and vineyard sprayers.
The collaboration aims to enhance navigation and obstacle detection for GUSS's driverless machines. These machines operate in high-value crop environments. Precise navigation is critical in these settings and often challenging for traditional GPS.
The Rev8 OS0 sensors will provide 3D point cloud data. This data equips sprayers with an ultra-wide field of view. It maps tree trunks, crop rows, and ground contours in various outdoor conditions.
This technology allows a single operator to remotely monitor and control up to eight autonomous machines simultaneously.
The integration marks a key application of Ouster's technology. It aims to make agricultural operations more efficient and resilient.
