Oklo Inc. was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to advance its Groves 2 Forge isotope production facility. The selection is part of the DOE’s National Reactor Innovation Center’s Nuclear Energy Launch Pad initiative, which supports the development of advanced domestic reactor technologies.
The facility will build on the company’s previous success with its Groves Isotope Test Reactor. It will initially focus on producing lutetium-177, an isotope used in advanced cancer treatments.
Oklo plans to transition the pilot facility to commercial-scale production, pending the necessary licenses from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The project is part of the company’s strategy to commercialize its advanced fission technologies.
