Chinese technology companies, including Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance, have reportedly ordered more than 6 million of Nvidia’s RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards. The orders are valued at roughly $70 billion.

The surge in demand for these less powerful, export-compliant chips highlights China’s strong appetite for AI hardware amid U.S. trade restrictions.

Nvidia has cautioned customers that it cannot guarantee it will fulfill the orders because demand far exceeds planned production. Global output of the RTX PRO 5500 may not exceed 3 million units in 2027.

Some partners were warned they might receive only 5% to 10% of the quantities they requested, pointing to significant delays for the Chinese companies.
