NanoViricides Inc. will launch a Phase II clinical trial for its oral Ebola drug, NV-387, next week in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The study takes place at an Ebola Treatment Center in the Ituri province. Researchers will evaluate the drug against the Bundibugyo ebolavirus, a strain currently lacking any approved vaccine or treatment.
The drug uses an oral gummy format to provide a broad-spectrum alternative to traditional infusion-based therapies. This delivery method specifically targets use in resource-limited settings. The adaptive Phase IIA/IIB trial will initially assess safety and dosing. It will then transition to a randomized, controlled evaluation of efficacy. The company has registered the trial in the Pan African Clinical Trials Registry.
