NanoViricides, Inc. announced on July 6, 2026, that it is advancing its broad-spectrum antiviral drug, NV-387, toward a Phase II clinical trial in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The drug is formulated as an oral gummy specifically to treat the Bundibugyo Ebolavirus.

The DRC's Pillar Committee has approved the clinical trial proposal. NanoViricides has assembled a team to execute the trial pending further regulatory and ethics clearances.

The current outbreak in the DRC is caused by a new variant of the Bundibugyo strain. There is currently no approved treatment or vaccine for this specific variant.

As of July 6, the outbreak has resulted in 1,561 confirmed cases. The virus has caused 506 confirmed deaths during this period.

NV-387 is positioned as a potentially advantageous treatment due to its oral activity. This formulation provides a significant benefit in resource-limited settings compared to treatments requiring infusions.
