A subsidiary of NextEra Energy has been selected to co-develop Project Star, an energy infrastructure campus in Encinal, Texas, with Related Companies and Lewis Energy Group. The project is estimated to cost more than $22 billion.

The initiative stems from a strategic investment agreement between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Republic of Korea.

Project Star includes a 6.47-gigawatt natural gas power facility. It is designed primarily to supply an adjacent 5-gigawatt data center campus being developed by Related Digital. Any surplus power will be sent to the Texas grid.

The project is expected to create about 8,400 jobs at peak construction. Once operational, it is expected to support about 170 permanent positions. The initial phase could come online as early as 2029.
