Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) joined a 21-member international consortium to establish a global stablecoin issuance company. The group expects to form the entity in the second half of 2026. MUFG is the sole East Asian founding member alongside institutions such as Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Deutsche Bank.
The venture plans to launch a U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoin in the first half of 2027. Subsequent offerings will target G7 currencies, prioritizing the euro. The entity will comply with major regulatory frameworks, including the U.S. GENIUS Act and Europe’s MiCA.
