Micron has filed a lawsuit in the United States accusing Chinese memory-chip maker Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp. (YMTC) of a systematic scheme to steal its intellectual property. The complaint alleges that YMTC recruited key Micron engineers, who then used confidential information to file patents in YMTC’s name. It also says some former employees obscured their new roles at YMTC on platforms such as LinkedIn.

The lawsuit escalates a global patent dispute between the companies. Micron alleges that YMTC has used the patents to sue it for infringement in several countries, including Germany, where YMTC recently won an injunction against Micron.

The new case counters patent-infringement claims YMTC first filed against Micron in the United States in November 2023.
