Metlen Energy & Metals PLC completed the first waste firing at the Protos energy recovery facility in Cheshire. This milestone initiates the final testing phase before the plant enters full operation.
The facility will process 500,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually. It is designed to generate 49.9 megawatts of electricity. This capacity will provide power for approximately 90,000 homes.
Metlen is constructing the project for Encyclis, a firm specializing in waste-to-energy solutions. The milestone follows previous execution challenges involving project timelines and costs.
Metlen shares increased 0.8% following the announcement. The stock traded at €48.60 during midday London hours.
