ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) successfully petitioned the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) to launch an anti-dumping investigation. The probe targets flat-rolled steel products imported from China.

AMSA operates as the sole producer of these materials within the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). The company alleges that Chinese steel enters the local market at dumped prices, causing material injury to its operations.

The investigation covers various categories of cold-rolled flat steel products. A finding in favor of AMSA could result in the imposition of import tariffs to protect the company's regional market share and pricing power.

This regulatory move follows recent cautionary announcements from AMSA. The company confirmed that discussions regarding a potential corporate transaction have reached an advanced stage.
