In a New York Times profile, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said, “Xbox is not for sale,” responding to speculation that Microsoft might sell its gaming division.
Since Sharma took leadership in February, the division has faced mass layoffs, studio closures and the sale of several development teams.
Sharma described the restructuring as a “reset” aimed at making the division more profitable and focused. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella called the changes a “streamlining.”
Sharma said Microsoft is taking a “long-term view” of its gaming business. The strategy includes reorganizing major franchises, moving the Halo series under Activision’s management and focusing on core intellectual properties to return the division to growth.
