OpenAI is in preliminary talks to acquire Trail of Bits, a cybersecurity company that finds and fixes vulnerabilities in software and AI systems. The discussions are in the early stages and may not result in a deal.
Founded in 2012, Trail of Bits provides security consulting, research and engineering services. The companies have collaborated before, including on the June 2026 initiative “Patch the Planet,” which aims to secure open-source software using OpenAI’s AI models and Trail of Bits’ security experts.
The potential acquisition reflects OpenAI’s growing focus on cybersecurity and the safety of its AI models.
