OpenAI has appointed Dan Driscoll, the 26th Secretary of the US Army, as its Senior Counselor for National Security Modernization. In the newly created role, he will advise company leaders on how AI can strengthen national security and cybersecurity for the US and its allies.

The appointment reflects OpenAI’s push to secure government and defense contracts and position itself as a partner to military and intelligence agencies. He will also help OpenAI’s internal teams understand the sector’s operational needs.
