OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, a startup that develops AI agents to help pharmaceutical companies manage drug development. The financial terms were not disclosed. Orchestra Bio’s platform lets researchers and program leaders delegate tasks such as monitoring studies and tracking development timelines to AI agents, with the goal of preventing delays and streamlining the complex development process.

Orchestra Bio’s team and technology will join OpenAI’s life sciences division, Rosalind. The integration is intended to pair Rosalind’s AI models for biological and chemical research with Orchestra Bio’s operational tools. OpenAI aims to build AI agents that connect scientific discoveries with the steps needed to bring treatments to patients more quickly. The acquisition adds to competition with rivals such as Anthropic, which is also expanding in AI-driven biotech.
