Microsoft is planning a major Xbox strategy shift under CEO Asha Sharma, according to a Fortune report citing people familiar with the company’s plans.

The roadmap reportedly includes a handheld gaming device targeted for the 2027 holiday season. A next-generation console, codenamed Project Helix, is planned for late 2028.

Microsoft is also reportedly considering a major overhaul of Xbox Game Pass. The proposed à la carte model would let players add features such as console-only games, cloud gaming and multiplayer to a base subscription.

Internal projections put the next-generation console’s potential price between $1,200 and $1,800, unless Microsoft subsidizes the cost, the report said.
