Microsoft is reorganizing its Azure cloud division to better integrate artificial intelligence and strengthen its position in the fast-changing AI sector. Cloud and AI chief Scott Guthrie detailed the changes on October 12, 2026.
Arun Ulag, who previously led Azure’s database products, will take on an expanded role overseeing the core Azure business and its engineering teams. His responsibilities include leadership of infrastructure that supports major clients such as OpenAI.
The reorganization follows other executive changes, including the departure of Azure’s former AI head to Anthropic earlier in the year.
