The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pledged at least $1 billion over the next two years to expand global access to artificial intelligence. This initiative, announced in the 10th annual Goalkeepers report, aims to prevent AI from widening the gap between rich and poor nations.

Bill Gates warned that advanced AI tools risk being developed only for those who can pay the most without deliberate intervention. The funding will focus on making AI more accessible and useful in lower-income countries.

The foundation will allocate 40% of the investment to education and 40% to healthcare. Agriculture will receive 10% of the funds, while the final 10% will support digital infrastructure such as local language datasets.
