The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered all federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek products and third-party services built using the Chinese company’s technology. The directive also bars future federal procurement of DeepSeek technology.
DHS signed the order in July and made it public in October 2026. It cites national security concerns, saying DeepSeek products pose “multiple threat vectors.”
The agency warned that sensitive U.S. data could be transferred to the Chinese government. DeepSeek’s servers are located in China, where authorities have extensive access to private company infrastructure. DHS also raised concerns that the AI models could contain malware or other security vulnerabilities.
