Research firm SemiAnalysis found that Anthropic’s subscription plans offer about five times the API-equivalent value of comparable OpenAI plans.
The report compares agentic workloads using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Sol. It concludes that Anthropic offers “far better value.”
SemiAnalysis estimated value by calculating what the subscription usage limits would cost at standard pay-as-you-go API rates.
The findings signal a shift in the competitive landscape. Many developers previously considered OpenAI’s subscription limits more generous.
AI companies often subsidize subscriptions heavily to attract and retain users.
