Hundreds of classic games, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Halo: Combat Evolved and Call of Duty: Black Ops, have reportedly been unofficially ported to run in web browsers. The clones are said to be made with advanced AI tools such as Claude Opus 5.5, which can reportedly reverse-engineer game code much faster than human programmers.
The browser-based games require no installation, raising concerns that they could challenge publishers’ copyright protections and traditional sales and distribution models. Legal teams at companies including Microsoft and Take-Two may face difficulties keeping pace with the rapid creation and spread of unauthorized ports.
