Montauk Renewables opened a new facility in Turkey, North Carolina, to convert swine waste into renewable electricity. The plant utilizes proprietary technology and represents a $200 million capital investment in the state’s agribusiness sector.
Local officials expect the project to provide new jobs and expand the regional tax base. As of late August, the company secured long-term agreements with more than 80 farms.
These partnerships grant the project access to over 415,000 hog spaces for its initial phase. The facility occupies a repurposed former distribution center.
State executives recognized the site as a key investment in North Carolina’s $100 billion agricultural economy.
